The Enugu State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against vehicle theft, recovering 15 stolen, snatched, or abandoned vehicles in various operations in May 2025.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday through the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
According to him, the recoveries are a testament to the command’s commitment to proactive policing and reducing incidents of vehicle theft in the state.
“The e-CMR platform is a vital national database that aids in the prompt identification and recovery of stolen vehicles across Nigeria,” Giwa said, urging vehicle owners to register their vehicles on the platform. “It supports effective policing through real-time verification of vehicle ownership,” he added.
One of the notable recoveries was a stolen Toyota Camry, which was recovered along the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway on May 25, the statement noted, adding that the vehicle had been stolen the previous night from Ugbene 2, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu.
Giwa advised vehicle owners to take personal responsibility for securing their vehicles, especially when parked.
“We urge the public to install security features such as Automated Vehicle Location tracking systems, car alarms, and mechanical anti-theft devices like steering and pedal locks,” he said. “These measures not only help prevent theft but also assist law enforcement in swiftly recovering stolen vehicles and arresting suspects.”
